Number of Vulnerable GOP Districts Doubled Over Summer

In today's Washington Post:
More GOP Districts Counted as Vulnerable: Number Doubled Over the Summer

Over the summer, the political battlefield has expanded well beyond the roughly 20 GOP House seats originally thought to be vulnerable. Now some Republicans concede there may be almost twice as many districts from which Democrats could wrest the 15 additional seats they need to take control.

This furthers the argument for selecting Sestak over Weldon, since Weldon would no longer be a member of the majority or run any committees. Setak, on the otherhand, would be a rising star in the majority and bring positive attention to the 7th district.

Republicans are hoping for some outside event that would show the president and their party in a better light -- a spate of good news from Iraq, a foiled terrorist plot or an unlikely break in the deadlock over immigration on Capitol Hill.

This is because INSIDE events (like their performance and voting records) show the don't deserve the jobs.

One prominent consultant -- who like many of the people interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to offer candid appraisals -- put the odds of a Democratic takeover at 75 percent. Another strategist who has worked as part of Bush's campaign team said he believes there is a 9-in-10 chance that Republicans will lose their 12-year-old House majority.
Other GOP officials, while nervous, believe they can hold the House with aggressive local campaigns and a national effort to focus on terrorism and security to raise voter fears about the consequences of Democratic control.
All predict one of the most negative midterm elections in memory, with virtually no positive advertising from the national GOP committees or individual GOP candidates.

Wow! It almost sounds they they are covering Weldon and Puppio's negative campaign strategy.

Since the start of the year, at least 18 more Republicans have gone on the "watch list" for potential defeat. They include veterans such as Anne M. Northup of Kentucky and Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania, and freshmen such as Thelma D. Drake of Virginia Beach.

Curt, that's you baby!! Don't you just love seeing your name in print? So vulnerable that you made the short-list! Way to go!

I love this line from the article:

GOP officials, while nervous, believe they can hold the House with...a national effort to focus on terrorism and security to raise voter fears...

Back a couple of months ago, Curt Weldon stood in front of a group of wine-sipping library patrons and tried to make them wet their pants:

Weldon unfurled a huge chart with hundreds of al-Qaida members - some pictured, others represented as stick figures - that populated terror cells globally.
"If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what will," Weldon said.

That's all they've got to sell: pure, unadulterated fear.

Terrorists in the streets. Terrorists in the grocery store. Terrorists under your bed.

We need to stop being afraid and start to be strong, fearless Americans again.

And the way we start that is to vote out fearmongers like Curt Weldon.

The Republicans resort to McCarthyism is truly hilarious. Do they think we are all stupid. They are all so keyed into this Islamic Fascism--watching Santorum today really showed it. It was also funny to see Santorum talking about WMD--he refused to concede that which his President admits--the intelligence relied upom was wrong and there are no weapons. He kept trying to focus on "500 Old weapons," apparently holding out hope (like Curt) that some "new weapons" will turn up.

I hope Curt has secured a better pension plan than the folks at Boeing. After he is forced into retirement on Nov 7th, he won't have that big paycheck to rely on. (I mean from Itera Russian Oil, of course)

Maybe it's time Curt stopped paying lip service to the 7th and actually produce some results. Oh! Thats right, he drove the Pagans out! Thats got to be worth another 2 years of incompetence.

Don't count on the Boeing vote this time around, Curt. We see who you're really in this for.

Another two years of Weldon would scare me more.

No, just the ones that voted for Bush twice. They stick with what has worked in the past.

If David posts a blog entry and no one but the Sestak campaign reads it, does it really matter?

Anonymous Weldon Staffer-

1) You and co-workers read it. So, it must matter.
2) Entertaining the troops helps the campaign. So, it does matter.
3) Active Democrats enjoy my take on Weldon's exploits and misadventures. So, it still matters.
4) I blog under my real name and I vote. So, what I say absolutely matters.
5) Anonymous Weldon minions, they blog, but they don't matter.

Also, the amount of traffic that comes to this site through search engines and other "side doors" would tend to confirm that there are plenty of people who can hear this tree falling in the woods.

Dave --

They can't conceive of people who actually support a candidate for his values. It has to be about money, about "what's in it for me?"

Pretty revealing comment, I'd say.

One more reason that, for me, this is a crusade, not just a political campaign.

The fact that you think what I'm writing is valuable enough to deserve pay is quite the compliment. Thanks, Weldon Staffer!

However, the only payment I get the is the ego gratification of having a forum for expressing my opinion and drawing attention to the walking/talking embarrassment that is Curt Weldon.

How much is Puppio paying you Weldon staffers to post here?

It is at the same time both not enough and too much. First for the embarassment you endure, and second for the weak arguments (though, admittedly, you're limited by the quality of your candidate).

Wendy's chicken sandwich: $4.59
Tank of gas: $29.50
Exposing the follies of a 20-year incumbant: Priceless
There are some things money can't buy.

In all seriousness, I haven't made "one red cent" or "one thin dime" or "dollar one", etc. While some of the Sestak staffers enjoy my writings, the campaign itself is too "politically correct" to attack Weldon, Puppio or the Delco GOP machine directly let alone pay someone like me to do it. I'm posting under my real name; check the campaign filings.

This might be hard for some of you politicos to understand but my opinion cannot be bought. If I disagree with someone, paying me a million dollars will not make me write something favorable. If you really think my opinion is for sale or I'm doing this for money, post a monetary offer for me to stop. Seriously, offer me a BIG bribe to stop. (Fair warning: that would backfire, because everyone would see me turn down the $100, $1000, $10,000, etc. offer and realize that I truly can't be bought. Damn you, personal integrity!)

In today's society you have lawyers that fight for polluters, doctors/researcher that say tobacco is safe, industry owned environmentalists that say mecury levels are just peachy, and politicians that sell their votes for money or jobs for their kids.

You also have people like me that are sick and tired of it and fed up of being told "that's the way the system is".

I have an opinion.
I express it.
I vote.
I encourage others to do the same.

Idealist.
