Penn student newspaper/blog interview of Weldon
The Spin, an opinion blog of the University of Pennsylvania's Daily Pennsylvanian newspaper, got a video interview of Curt Weldon earlier this week, in which he blames everyone but himself for the FBI investigation. Pretty good scoop by The Spin. There was also a video interview on CNN.
Weldon also names some of his supporters, such as the AFL-CIO. In response, the AFL-CIO issued a press release, saying:

AFL-CIO President William George criticized Republican Congressman Curt Weldon for his attempt to mislead viewers during a nationally televised interview over labor support for his campaign.
The facts are that the union members in the 7th Congressional are mobilizing union household support for Democrat Joe Sestak, who is committed to fighting for workers on the issues that matter most: protecting good jobs from unfair trade deals, improving access to health care, defending the prevailing wage and refusing any pay increase until the minimum wage is increased for low wage earners.

It is a disappointing and a disgraceful act on the part of Curt Weldon to try and mislead voters about his record and performance. Curt Weldon owes the working people and the labor movement an apology and should stop trying to mislead the voters about support that does not in fact exist.

I am really suprised...a Union backing a Democrat, golly that IS news.
Now if I ever read of any unions backing the GOP I will probably faint dead away.
I have always wondered why the stong connection between two failing ideals...unions are losing members faster than they can count and why is it, the members they do have have to be told who to vote for?
Interesting site BTW, nice to see democracy in action even if it is just to say how BAD one candidate is rather than say how GOOD the other is. Keep up the good work.
One other random though, is Sestak only going to serve one term? If he seeks re election (assuming he wins of course) doesn't that make him a dreaded "Career Politician" or is he somehow exempt because he is "doing the work of the people"? Just curious.
The weldon video interview is outrageous. I'm surprised Weldon didn't name Diano as part of the conspirators. Also, does he think expect the public to believe that the federal justice department, wiht his good buddy, United Sttaes Attorney Pat Meehan (Republican and former DELCO DA), the Chief federal law enforcement officer in this district, are part of some left wing conspiracy to oust him, and bring down on eof DELCO's GOP power elite/bosses/power-broker/king-maker? WMD in Iraq and Able Danger aside, Wedlon is certainly spinning one of the most amazing and far-fetched stories wiht this one. To all those Rs dreaming of the John Street scenario, stop drinking the Kool Aid and watching Fox News Channel, the electorate here is not foolish and knows that there are substantial differences between the Street bug and the probe into Weldon's ongoing abuse of power(Street, a democrat, african american form Philadelphia was being hunted down down by the Republican Justice Department, including former DELCO DA and current US Attorney Pat Meehan)
As to the Union, Weldon courted them, and lost them. ONly his cronies in DELCO are backing him. When he says the AFL-CIO backs him, he is not being truthful. Bill Georges press-release was only in the itnerest of full disclosure.
After Joe serves 20 years in congress, we can have the discussion of whether he deserves more.

The news is not that the union is backing the Democrat (they backed Weldon for many previous elections). The NEWS is that Weldon mistated their support for him so much that they had to issue a correction/clarification.
Unions are not a failed concept. When managed properly, they serve the vital role of protecting workers from abuses and other misdeed by their employers. Unions have been under attack by anti-worker legislation under the guise of "fair" pro-business.
The Democrats suffered setbacks in the 80's and 90's when they got too greedy, but they were still the party looking to help the poor and middle class. Under the onslaught of bad 'trickle-down' economics that have enriched the rich and impoverished millions, the voters have begun to realize that the Democrats ideas/priorties were better.
The members are bombard with FALSE/MISLEADING information that the GOP policies will help them. The Unions, properly, should educate them as to which politicians are pro-union.
Sestak already had a 31-year career. I'd give him a few terms before I'd call his new job a political career.

I think it is Weldon. Melanie Sloan and CREW were merely following up on the allegations/discoveries by the LA Times two years ago. The current congress, under Hastert, shut down the Ethics committee and sent a message when it replaced the GOP members that had looked into Tom Delay. The message was clear: don't investigate GOP member or you will be taken off the committee.
There is a difference between looking for answers and being a foolish/paranoid conspiracy nut. Weldon may not be 'thrilled' with how the war is going, but he still claims it was the 'right thing to do' and still makes the false/debunked connection between Iraq and Al Quada-9/11.
Weldon's influence peddling has been going on for years. It is only now that the GOP culture of corruption is coming to light that FBI wiretapping was applied to gather the evidence. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
On an amusing Weldon note, Andrew Weldon has repeatedly tried to have all mention of himself removed from the Wikipedia article about his father. When his own repeated attempts failed at blanking the article, he appealed to the Wikipedia staff for help. They removed unsourced material, but then Wiki users rewrote the section, fully sourcing everything with footnotes, and Andrew Weldon once again has been trying to blank the page. Typical Republican approach to bad news: when you can't do anything else, pretend reality doesn't exist.
Weldon is far from perfect, but he at least did not provide North Korea with nuclear technology and money to develop it, did not turn down Sudan’s offer to extradite Bin Laden, did not provide Chinese with military satellite technology and didn’t try to cover up 9/11. Didn’t Sestak serve for Clinton National Security Council during the Dem’s misadventures in NK, China and Sudan?

on North Korea - yes - they did start developing the technology during Bush senior days. But Bush senior did not hand them two light water reactors. South Korea begged US not to provide nuclear technology to their unruly Northern neighbor and in exchange promised to provide them with electricity for 20+ years. Somehow everybody in the world (but Bill Clinton) knew that giving NK nuclear reactors is not such a good idea.
Perhaps Joe Sestak and his crew should read "Losing bin Laden: How Bill Clinton's Failures Unleashed Global Terror" by a Brussels based investigative journalist. Crazy curt tries to scare up taxes as issue with the Admiral but he only wants to roll back taxes on top earners, you know the ones that are getting 1/2 million back in taxes per year. Weak on security, anyone who served, (I was a Navy EOD diver, now disabled vet, fire away, it doesn't make me immune, but I'll still kick your a**) knows that you do not make it to be an admiral if you are weak on security. Admiral Sestak has the ability to command an aircraft battle carrier group and run Deep Blue, I am sure he can figure what "Able Danger" had to tell us (if anything) better than crazy curt.
Curt Weldon is an embarrassment to our district, that is right an embarrassment, he thinks that he is some kind of intel expert based on his dealings with firefighters and expelling pagans from marcus hook. Those things he did while admirable do not make him an intel expert. Quite frankly if he was still the way he was when he ascended to office he would be better off. He has unfortunately been consumed by some inflated vision that he has of himself that leads him to believe that his campaign office should be in quantico and that his staffers should all have code names.
By the way, all of you neocon chickenhawks, I wonder how Bush would have performed if from day one in office he had been under the watchful eye of a special prosecutor. Now what Bubba did, Bubba did and he was an ass for it, but give me a break, he fired missiles after Al Qaeda attack on embassies and was accused of wagging the dog.
