All in the family, All quiet on the Weldon front
Today's Delco Times and Philadelphia Inky both ran articles on Mary Weldon's statements supporting Curt and the Weldon kids. While we're sure this is a troubling time and all for Mrs. Weldon, it's important to note that the attacks on her children are not personal attacks, but questions and investigations into their business dealing and connections to possible ethics violations. And they are not "unfounded attacks" as Mrs. Weldon states. These business dealings are well documented and involve public money, campaign contribution, and ethics questions - and deserve public scrutiny. If you want to discuss personal family attacks, one can talk about Curt's challenging how the Sestak family cares for their daughter.
Hurrahs to Delco Times editor Phil Heron for today's Editorial: Weldon won’t clear name by pleading Fifth in the Delco Times questioniong Weldon's silent strategy on not releasing the House Ethics Committee report on their work regarding at least one of these ethics questions. But let's take it a step further. Even if Weldon does release this letter now, you have to remember that it is from the Republican controlled Congress' House Ethics Committee. They declined to pursue this matter. Maybe they had bigger fish to fry (DeLay-Abramoff, Foley, etc.) But the lack of checks and balances in our government today, where the Republicans control at least the executive and legislative branchs, is just one of the compelling reasons to change things in Washington now.
A perusual of the information available on the many Weldon ethics issues, including more details on the Karen Weldon-Charlie Sexton-Serbian "terrorists" visas in the Inky today by a critical-thinking would likely lead to the conclusion that our current Congressman Weldon has violated the spirit, if not the letter, of many ethics laws. No House Ethics Committee letter takes that away.
My opinion is that Weldon got too cocky and figured he would never be challenged for his seat in Congress, so he could get away with this stuff. With the light shining on these dubious dealings, along with the plethora of information on his colleagues engaging in other corruptions, and the presence of a formidable opponent, it just may be the end of the road for the ethically-challenged. And plenty of time for watching TV reruns of "All in the Family" and old movies in the Weldon household.

While I don't fault Mrs. Weldon for standing up for her husband, I am reminded of the expression: "The wife is always the last to know."
Since many wives are unaware when their husbands have extra-marital affairs, I find it un-likely that wives would be generally be aware of any extra-legal activities in their husbands' business dealings.
I don't recall Weldon giving Bill Clinton the "benefit of the doubt" for anything when he voted for impeachment or having any consideration for the support Mrs. Clinton offered.
Are you implying that Hillary stood by Bill because she didn't know any better? Poor analogy. It would be pretty hard to give Bill Clinton the benefit of the doubt given the evidence offered by Monica Lewinsky, including her stained blue dress.
The only reason Hillary stood by her husband is because she had much bigger plans for her political career. Period.
mmm, gotta love the false moral equivalence...

Maybe the only reason that Mrs. Weldon is standing by Curt is that she she hasn't found Curt's blue dress (or the FBI findings).
Just wondering Dave, are you against all corrupt pols,or just Republicans who are corrupt.
Before Dave responds, is that a tacit concession that Weldon is corrupt?
The phrase "Curt deserves the benefit of the doubt" by Mrs. Weldon is, in itself, an admission by her that there exists valid reason for having doubt. While I am sure that the folks who scripted the ad were very careful with its wording, the use of that phrase when "Curt has done nothing unethical" was available is quite telling.
Face it, Weldonites, his daughter did get a job with a Finnmechannica subsidiary, his other daughter and Charlie Sexton did get lucrative lobbying contracts with at least four entities that Curt went to bat for, two of which are at least unsavory, if not criminal. Finally Cecilia Grimes, a Realtor (and Weldon family friend) with zero lobbying experience is feeding like a Pilot Fish behind Shark-like Weldon picking up at least 10 large chunks of corporate flesh since 2003, all of whom can be traced in some way to Weldon.
The man is arrogant, unethical and the worst part is that he probably still doesn't realize he did anything wrong.

I'm against all corrupt pols, but I believe in going after the worst offenders first (20 most corrupt in Congress). Also, the GOP and conservative (or rather extreme right-wing neocons) lobbyists have created such an imbalance of power that it breed corruption more severe than any in our lifetimes.
Getting rid of Weldon and taking back Congress are important first steps in that direction.
The hope it that there will be enough new/uncorrupted members to enact stronger reforms.
That previous post was me, not anonymous. Accidentally clobbered setting on my browser. Oops. :-)
From PoliticsPA, posted this evening:
PoliticsPA has learned from local sources that the RNC is pulling the plug on 72 hour operation in Delaware County. This is a clear indication that the national committees have written off Congressman Weldon. Details at http://PoliticsPA.com
I don't believe that for one second.
whether rnc participates or not does not chnage the level of work we need to do--we have seen too many times the GOTV efforts of the DELCO GOP. We know Charlie has 500K in springfield republican party and they have lots of committee people. w have our own operation and it will be time to kick it into gear adn meet them on the field of battle and see who can GOTV and spread the word the best. LETS GET IT ON and TAKE 'EM DOWN.
Damn straight. What the other party does should have no bearing whatsoever on how Democrats organize in these final days. It has become a local ground war, and I sincerely doubt whether it can be altered by any actions from the state or national level at this point.
